Mother Clucker Chicken Cull - Mount Wolfe Farm, 10054 Old Church Rd. Caledon ON, L7E 0P4 ON
Join us Saturday, October 31st, for Mother Clucker Chicken Cull #6.
In this day-long workshop, develop important life skills honouring the animals we consume through the act of dispatch and processing ethically raised chickens.
Throughout the experience, we’ll hold space for each other gently, acknowledging that we all come from different starting points and comfort levels with this practice.
We aim to create a supportive environment, embracing this sensitive task with reverence and have fun.
At the end of this workshop, you will know how to :
Cone and knife dispatch
Broom dispatch
Hand pluck
Barrel pluck
Clean and store
With these skills, you will be knowledgeable in both small and medium-scale home flock processing. More importantly, whether you have a flock or not, you will leave with an even deeper appreciation for the animals that feed us and our communities.
Join us as we embark on this journey of skill, connection, understanding, and mindful reflection with the animals and food that sustain us.
We will provide lunch, please bring your own snacks, and a dinner potluck contribution.
Note that due to Ontario meat and slaughter regulations, you will leave with a valuable skill but not a chicken.
Please arrive at 9am
This year MCCC falls on Samhain! We encourage all guests to bring with them ritual garb to wear for our Samhain pot luck feast.
What is Samhain you ask?
Samhain (pronounced SOW-in) is an ancient Celtic festival celebrated from sunset on October 31 to November 1 to mark the end of the harvest and the start of winter. Known as the Celtic New Year, it was a time when Celtic folks believed the barrier between the living and spirit worlds was at its thinnest.
Join us to honour food as in the days of old, with respect and reverence.
Depart with a practical food sovereign skill.
